Congratulations to Avinash Supe (PHIL 2002, IFME 2007), Director of the GSMC-FAIMER Regional Institute, who was recently appointed by the newly elected Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to serve on an advisory committee for medical education reform. Dr. Supe reports that the Prime Minister and Health Minister of India have jointly decided to work toward reforms in medical education and the health sector. Gaps and irregularities in medical education have been recognized, and the advisory committee has been appointed to help address these concerns. Overseen by Professor Roy Chaudhari, the committee is comprised of eight members, many of whom are currently serving as Deans and Directors at reputable Indian medical institutions. Dr. Supe reports that the committee has been tasked with developing a new act for the Medical Council of India.
