Fasika Amdeslasie (SAFRI 2013) reports that he, Solomon Worku Beza (PHIL 2012), and Zerihun Wolde Gebremichael (SAFRI 2012) recently conducted a training program on effective teaching skills (ETS) in Ethiopia. The objective of the program was to enable its participants to become competent ETS facilitators. Seventy-five candidate trainees from 25 health sciences colleges across the country were invited. Participants came from a variety of health care professions such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, biomedical sciences, midwifery, and public health. Dr. Amdeslasie says this made it an ideal setting for interprofessional collaborative learning, which he believes should be encouraged in striving for the improvement of health care in Ethiopia. After completing the program, participants will now be able to conduct ETS trainings at their home institutions, with the support of health professions education and education development centers.
