Bangalore, India – On June 3, 2025, Dr. Waqar Naqvi was awarded his fourth patent by the Indian Patent Office for an “Artificial Intelligence–Based Dentist Chair” (Application No. 202221008786). Developed in collaboration with Humen Edutech LLP and NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences, this AI-driven chair is designed to (1) optimize patient positioning automatically, (2) streamline clinic workflows via intelligent sensor feedback, and (3) enhance ergonomic support for both dentists and patients.

His role encompassed conceptualizing the AI architecture, coordinating multidisciplinary teams (engineers, dental clinicians, and AI specialists), and validating prototype performance in real-world settings. Key activities included:

  • AI Model Design: Leading the specification of a computer vision module that detects head-and-neck alignment in real time, ensuring consistent patient posture.
  • Sensor Integration: Overseeing the integration of pressure and proximity sensors to automate chair-height and tilt adjustments, reducing setup time by an estimated 30%.
  • Knowledge Translation: Preparing training modules for dental staff, demonstrating how AI feedback can improve treatment efficiency and reduce occupational fatigue.

This invention directly aligns with his broader work in AI-augmented healthcare, especially within medical and allied health professions education. By embedding intelligent systems into traditional clinical equipment, his team not only improved patient safety, but also model innovative, technology-driven practices for trainees. This patent further strengthens AD Vivum Education & Research’s portfolio of AI tools aimed at transforming healthcare delivery.
