Congratulations to Yinusa Raji (PHIL 2007), who was recently awarded an associateship as part of the TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme at Centers of Excellence in the South. TWAS (formerly the Third World Academy of Sciences) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) established the associateship in 1994 to counter the emigration of much-needed health care workers affecting many developing countries. The program enables health professionals from developing countries to collaborate with fellow researchers at one of more than 100 participating institutions known as "centers of excellence." As an Associate, Yinusa will collaborate with the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The associateship lasts three years and includes up to two visits of approximately three months each to the Shanghai Institutes.
Yinusa has also been nominated by his home institution, the University of Ibadan, College of Medicine, to take on an important role in the newly approved Masters in Biomedical Education Methods program. Yinusa will be developing instructional materials for the program as well as teaching.
