Congratulations to Vanessa Burch (PHIL 2001) on her inaugural lecture as professor of clinical medicine at the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Department of Medicine. Vanessa is the first female professor of clinical medicine in the 89-year history of the UCT Department of Medicine. Her lecture, which was featured in the April 2009 issue of the UCT faculty newsletter, was entitled Health Care in South Africa Today and focused on the challenges facing South Africa in meeting the United Nations 2015 Millennium Development Goals.
