Congratulations to Irene Durante-Montiel (PHIL 2008), who recently received an Achievement Award from the Mexican Council for Accreditation of Medical Education (COMAEM) for her work in reorganizing Mexico’s National Accreditation System for Medical Education. The work was conducted during 2007 and 2008. The process involved evaluating the accreditation experience in Mexico from the ground up, while: incorporating review comments received from medical programs, site visitors, council members, and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (COPAES); incorporating an impact study co-conducted from 1995 to 2005 by Dr. Durante-Montiel; and reviewing international information on the subject.

Dr. Durante-Montiel has also been very active writing and editing works on health professions education, including the following recently published books:

Graue-Wiechers E, Sánchez-Mendiola M, Durante Montiel I, Rivero-Serrano O, editors. Educación en Residencias Médicas. Mexico, DF: Editores de Textos Mexicanos, 2010.

Rivero-Serrano O, Durante Montiel I, editors. Tratado de Ética Médica. México, DF: Editorial Trillas, 2009.

She also co-authored a volume entitled Obesidad (Obesity) in the recently published series entitled Medicina y Salud (Medicine and Health). This series, published by Intersistemas Editores consists of 11 volumes.

In addition, Dr. Durante-Montiel has co-authored the following paper (to view the article, click on its title):
