Congratulations to Sucheta Dandekar (PHIL 2010, IFME 2014, MHPE 2018), whose book, Medical Biochemistry: Preparatory Manual for Undergraduates was recently published by Elsevier India. The book, which was coauthored by Prof. Abbas Mahdi, is intended to help undergraduates understand the scientific basis of life processes at the molecular level and orient them toward the application of the knowledge acquired in solving clinical problems. It covers the entire syllabus of biochemistry as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India, with emphasis on clinical applications.

Dr. Dandekar reports that she also recently gave an invited presentation titled “Social Obligation—How Prepared are the Medical Schools in India?” at Manipal Academy of Higher Education and conducted a symposium titled “Newer Approach to Assessment in Biochemistry” at the National Conference of the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India. She also published an article in the July-December 2017 issue of the Association of Health Professions Educators (AHPE) News Bulletin, titled “The different shades of social obligation and medical colleges in India.”
